PAXTON — The Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department is accepting registration from individuals interested in attending a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program.
The six-week program, provided once per week for six weeks, begins Thursday, March 7, and continues each Thursday through April 11. Classes will meet at the Illinois Knights Templar Home, 450 E. Fulton St., Paxton, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. each week.
People with chronic health problems are encouraged to participate. Classes are facilitated by two trained leaders and are highly participative.
Some of the subjects covered include: techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance; appropriate use of medications; communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals; nutrition; and how to evaluate new treatments.
The class instruction is provided free of charge. Participants may either borrow the workbook utilized in the class or purchase their own workbook for $20.
