Rantoul NARFE chapter to close

RANTOUL — The Rantoul Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Emloyees (NARFE) is being closed.

“Several years of efforts to entice members to assume roles as officers and committee members have not been successful. In the meantime the current officers are experiencing health and age-related issues affecting ability to continue their service,” said chapter member Owen Kirby.

“This is a sad note occurring at at time when the federal budget is being assailed and federal employees and retirees have promised and earned benefits on the line from their federal employment. Unity of their interests and efforts is obviously very important.”

The chapter will meet at 10:30 a.m. March 6, at the Urbana Garden Family Restaurant, 810 W. Killarney St., Urbana. The program will address chapter closing, membership transfer subjects and a special 50th anniversary recognition of chapter service to members. Reservations are not required.  For more information, call 893-3501.
