PAXTON — The Paxton Park District’s swimming pool will close for the season on Sunday, Aug. 26, and will have reduced hours of operation in the preceding days.
With school starting Monday, Aug. 20, there will be fewer children available to use the pool, Recreation Director Neal McKenry said, so the park district decided to limit the hours of the facility to 4-7 p.m. from Aug. 20, through Thursday, Aug. 23.
The pool is normally open for “open swim” from 1-5 p.m. each day. McKenry said he has received several complaints throughout the summer that the pool is not open late enough, and he hopes people take advantage of the late-afternoon and evening hours next week to determine if the pool needs to be open later next summer.
Meanwhile, the pool will be closed Friday, Aug. 24, because McKenry expects there would be low attendance with the first PBL High School football game of the season being held that evening.
The pool will be open from 1-7 p.m. both Saturday, Aug. 25, and Sunday, Aug. 26.
Until Aug. 20, the pool will continue to have its regular hours of 1-5 p.m. This weekend, there will be a back-to-school special that will allow kids who do not have a pool pass to swim all day for $1. Daily admission fees are normally $3.50.
