Rankin board accepts bids for vacant lots

RANKIN — The village board voted unanimously Thursday to accept a pair of sealed bids — the only two received — for the purchase of two vacant lots on North Main Street.

The bids were both from owners of property adjacent to the two lots, Mayor Aaron Warren said. A bid of $850, from Beverly Overbey, was accepted for one of the lots; the other lot went to Roxanne Hasting, a village board member who bid $350.

No other bids were received for either lot, Warren said.

The lots were part of a property that was acquired by the village; a dilapidated home on the property was recently torn down.

Warren said the board would hold a public hearing regarding the sale of the property during its next meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4.
