Three file for GOP primary for Ford judge seat

SPRINGFIELD — All three candidates for a judicial vacancy in Ford County filed nominating petitions at 8 a.m. today at the State Board of Elections in Springfield.

Ford County State’s Attorney Matt Fitton of Paxton, attorney Ellen Lee of Paxton and Ross Sorensen of rural Buckley, all filed nominating petitions as the nominating process opened this morning. Petitions will be accepted until next Monday, although no other candidates are likely to file.

The three candidates, all filing to run in the Republican primary election on March 18, 2014, are seeking to succeed Judge Steve Pacey in the 11th Judicial Circuit.

The circuit includes Ford, Livingston, Logan, McLean and Woodford counties.

Pacey announced his resignation earlier this month. His last day on the bench will be Dec. 31.

The Sorensen campaign said that it filed with more than 1,000 signatures, which is about 7 percent of the county’s population.
