Monthly recycling pickup to be discontinued in Sibley

SIBLEY — The Sibley Village Board learned during its March 6 meeting that garbage hauler Arlan Kaufman will be discontinuing monthly recycling in Sibley starting April 1.

The last recycling collection will be Friday, March 31, Kaufman said.

Kaufman, owner of Kaufman Disposal, also presented a new garbage contract to the board, with first rate increase in six years going into effect May 1.

Also at the meeting:

➜ Josh Wurmnest and Marni Bishop, representing the Sibley Area Business & Historical Association, told the board about the activities of the associaton, which is currently preserving old photographs of the village with plans of putting them on display at the Sullivant Township Hall.

➜ Culverts are being cleaned out, the board learned.

➜ Water usage totaled 530,200 gallons in the previous month, for a daily average of 18,935 gallons.

➜ Inopperable vehicle violations were discussed.

➜ The board agreed to buy four new flags for Sibley’s parks.
