Work continues on Illinois 54 between Gibson City, Melvin

GIBSON CITY — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Monday that work to replace three Illinois 54 structures between Melvin and Gibson City continues.

A $2.274 million contract to complete the work was awarded to Tobey’s Construction & Cartage Inc. of Herscher.

Originally slated to be completed in late August, heavy rains and flooded site conditions pushed back the completion date for the work to mid-September. At that time, the road will be re-opened, and remaining work will be completed utilizing flaggers. All work related to the contract will be completed this fall.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zone or along the detour route.
