New food pantry to open in Paxton on Dec. 3

PAXTON — The Hands of Christ Food Pantry (HCFP) is expecting to open its doors on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Upper Room Bible Church, according to HCFP President Dawn Thomas.

The opening date of the pantry was set after a meeting with board members on Nov. 10. The pantry will be open from 9 a.m. to noon that day.

Food is being stored at the United Methodist churches in Paxton and Loda.

The HCFP members plan on moving the food to the Upper Room Bible Church — the pantry’s host site — on Nov. 29.  Volunteers have been getting the food pantry room ready during the past few weeks.

HCFP is still awaiting approval on an application to the Eastern Illinois Food Bank.  Approval would allow HCFP to purchase food at a lower cost.

Anyone who would like to donate food to the HCFP can drop it off at the Paxton United Methodist Church from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
