Police: Hazardous driving conditions in Kankakee County

KANKAKEE — Illinois State Police are advising drivers to be cautious while traveling this afternoon and evening.

Interstate 57 is experiencing drifting and blowing snow throughout Kankakee County, causing whiteout conditions in areas. Secondary roads are also snow experiencing drifting and blowing snow throughout Kankakee County. Visibility on all roadways throughout Kankakee County is limited due to the blowing snow.

Motorists are advised to be cautious while driving near and around snow plows. Motorists should also be cautious, slow down, and move over for emergency vehicles assisting stranded motorist on the roadways. 

The Illinois State Police are asking drivers to monitor changing weather conditions, limit their travels, and be prepared to allow plenty of time to reach your destination.  Drivers are also encouraged to put extra water, food, and warm clothing their vehicle. Please contact your nearest police department if you vehicle becomes disabled or involved in a crash.
