Traffic backed up on I-57 near Buckley

ASHKUM — District 21 Illinois State Police said several slide-offs have been reported due to icy conditions on Interstate 57 in Ford, Iroquois and Kankakee counties.

On Friday morning, police said traffic was reduced to one lane on northbound I-57 at mile post 324 near Kankakee due to a jack-knifed semiotrailer. Another jack-knifed semi was causing traffic backup on northbound I-57 at mile post 274, near Buckley.

Both lanes of the interstate were open as of noon, police said.

Police are asking drivers to monitor changing weather conditions, limit their travels and be prepared to allow plenty of time to reach their destination.  Drivers are also encouraged to put extra water, food and warm clothing in their vehicle. Drivers should contact their nearest police department if their vehicle becomes disabled or involved in a crash.
