Thomas H. Keeley Sr.

FAIRBURY — Thomas H. Keeley Sr., 85, of Fairbury, father of a Gibson City resident, died at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at Fairview Haven Retirement Community in Fairbury.

Cremation rites were accorded, and a graveside inurnment with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Strawn Cemetery, Strawn. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Fairbury is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Keeley was born July 9, 1932, in Forrest Township, the son of Harold and Mabel (Hartman) Keeley. He married Oleta Scott on Sept. 24, 1954, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Memphis, Tenn. She died Feb. 10, 2017.

Survivors include two children, Tim (Deb) Keeley of Gibson City and Barb (Roger Embry) Cook of Fairbury; one sister, Joan (Hansie) Haberkorn of Chatsworth; eight grandchildren, Stacey (Brandon) Heldebrandt, Jason Clearwater, Shawn (Joanie) Clearwater, Justin (Maggie) Ziller, Scott Thomas (Brittany) Ziller, Katie (Scott Travis) Ziller, Anna Keeley and Leah (Justin) Quintana; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one son, Thomas Keeley Jr.

Mr. Keeley served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years. He loved to travel and enjoyed fishing with his wife. One of their favorite things was collecting rocks from all the places they had traveled to. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
