Marjorie Jean Vetter

SIBLEY — Marjorie Jean Vetter, 92, of Sibley, died at 11:03 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City.

A private celebration-of-life service will be held at Rosenbaum Funeral Home in Gibson City.

Mrs. Vetter was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Bloomington, a daughter of John Gray and Louise Schleeter Canute. She married Ernest L. Vetter on April 8, 1944, in Decatur. After 69 years of marriage, he died Oct. 16, 2013.

Surviving are her children Neva (Jim Abbey) Rohrer of Sibley, John (Valerie Gruss) Vetter of Lincroft, N.J., Paul (Marge) Vetter of Sibley and Stanley (Suzanne) Vetter of Sibley; her daughters-in-law Gwen (Clayton) James of Downs and Maria Santucci of Champaign; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Connie (Larry) Abrams of Lake Wales, Fla.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jim and Bruce; her brother, Delmar (Verta) Canute; a son-in-law, Robert Rohrer; and a daughter-in-law, Joan Calloway Vetter.

Mrs. Vetter was a member of the Sibley United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a board member and a member of the Methodist Women group. She worked alongside her husband in the grain and livestock business.
