Betty Lucielle Sheppard Volden

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Betty Lucielle Sheppard Volden, 89, of High Point, N.C., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019.

A service was held Wednesday, Feb. 6, in North Carolina to receive friends from the area.  Another memorial service will be held in Paxton at a later date.

Born Nov. 3, 1929, in Watseka, Mrs. Volden was the daughter of the late Francis and Veronica Sheppard.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Sanford Volden, and three sisters. 

Mrs. Volden retired from the civil service, having worked as a bookkeeper at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul. She was a resident of the High Point, N.C., area for the last 14 years and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed playing with friends and family.  

Surviving are four children, Barbara Lorig (Loren), of Edina, Minn., Jane Volden, of Needham, Mass., Earl Volden, of Eldridge, Iowa, and Mark Volden (Jana), of High Point, N.C.; two sisters, Leona Shafer and Mary Ott; 10 grandchildren, Mark Lorig, Matthew Lorig, Meredith Lorig, Kristen Ounanian, Kate Volden, Ben Volden (Jenny), Beth Volden, Kyle Volden, Leigh Anna Marbert (Bryan), and Trey Johnson; and four great-grandchildren, Hadley Volden, Jack Volden, Cora Volden and Max Marbert.
