Panthers boys basketball improves to 2-0 in PBL/Manteno Interstate Classic


PAXTON – The Panthers ran their record to 2-0 with an 84-41 victory over Oakwood Tuesday.

Their offense erupted for 22 and 28 points in the second and third quarters, respectively. Defensively, PBL held the Comets to eight points in the first quarter en route to a 17-8 lead at the end of the quarter and outscored them 17-6 in the fourth quarter.

Weston Weber led PBL in scoring with 20 points, including 10 and eight in the second and third quarters, respectively. Tyler Rubarts sank a couple of first-quarter 3-pointers and scored five points in the third quarter en route to a game total of 13 points.

Jay Eshleman and Drew Schrodt each reached double figures as well with 11 points. Eshleman made three shots from beyond the arc while Schrodt sank one, as PBL finished the game draining eight 3-pointers.

Axl Denault and Parker Young each added six points to the Panthers’ scoring efforts. Vaughn Gentzler made a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and finished the game with five points.

Garrett Rigsby came off the bench to score four points in the fourth quarter. Jeremy Walder and Kyler Swanson each contributed three points – with Swanson burying a 3-point attempt in the third quarter – while Patrick Brown tallied two points.

For Oakwood, Kyle Elliott was the high scorer with 19 points. Skyler Slade scored in double figures as well with 16 points.

Friday’s action in the Classic will include a matchup between two undefeated teams, as PBL will meet Tri-Valley at 7:30 p.m.
