PAXTON – Tri-Valley fell less than 10 seconds short of winning its second consecutive PBL/Manteno Interstate Classic championship.
After the Vikings’ Blake Cowden sank two free throws to give his team a 47-46 lead with 17.5 seconds left in overtime, Andrew Marganski scored the game-winning basket on a driving layup to give Peotone a 48-47 victory in Saturday’s title game.
It is the Blue Devils’ first Interstate Classic championship since 2007.
Josh Vincent was Peotone’s leading scorer with 14 points. Adam Slager, who was named to the All-Tournament team, also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Cowden was the only Tri-Valley player to receive all-tourney team honors as well after scoring a game-high 25 points, including a 10-for-11 performance at the foul line.
Brady White, another All-Tournament team member for the Blue Devils, scored seven points while Marganski finished the game with six points.
Derrick Vincent, Gino Fanello and Donnie Algozine scored five, four and two points, respectively.
For Tri-Valley, Travis Goveia joined Cowden in the double figures club with 11 points. Joel Kussmann and Aaron Tagala each scored four points.
Blake Hillary and Tyler Halloran tallied two points and one point, respectively.
