CLIFTON – Although Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley’s boys basketball season ended in the Clifton Central Regional quarterfinals three days prior, Reese Simpson’s basketball season continued beyond Friday night.
He drilled 10 3-pointers in the Three-Point Showdown that took place prior to the regional title game. The total was good enough for second place in the regional.
“I know that my season’s not over yet until I’m done shooting,” Simpson said. “It’s for my team. I’ll make the best of it.”
Simpson, along with Clifton Central’s J.R Caspary – who made 11 3-pointers – and Noah Frerichs (9) and Watseka’s Jake Lyznicki (8 with four in tiebreaker) will advance to the sectional round.
Simpson said his 3-point shooting was perfected by hard work performed over the summer.
“It feels good. Over the summer, we worked on form and arc, things that helped get your rotation down and let you know what you would do in a game shooting-wise,” Simpson said. “It just helped us shoot, and I took advantage of it.”
Simpson will shoot in the Tolono Unity Sectional prior the title game that starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
“I’ll just do what I usually do and just shoot,” Simpson said.
Ben Eads made seven 3-pointers as well while Aaron Thomason and Nick Retherford finished with six and five treys, respectively.
