Here's a look at some other area athletes who stood out this past year in sports.
Special mention
Catlyn Ekstrom (volleyball, basketball, softball)
-- The PBL senior was never the star, but she always did her job well, earning honorable mention all-SVC honors in volleyball and special mention all-SVC honors in softball. Ekstrom was a part of 61 wins across three sports this year.
Angel Gaesser (volleyball, basketball, track and field)
-- The GCMS senior was a go-to player for a basketball squad that won 19 games in the winter, but she really stood out on the track. Gaesser took second at Class 1A state in the 800 meters and anchored the winning 1,600 relay.
Regan Romshek (golf, basketball, softball)
-- The GCMS senior was a dead-eye 3-point shooter on the hardwood and even better in the pitching circle. Romshek won 22 games and struck out 312 batters this season for a 26-win team. She will pitch for Illinois State next season.
JJ Valentine (softball)
-- She only played one sport as a senior at PBL, but Valentine was one of the area’s best in softball. She was a wizard defensively and hit over .550 with close to 40 stolen bases. She will play at Danville Area Community College next season.
Cheyenne Weber (basketball)
-- The PBL senior was a unanimous first team all-SVC basketball selection this season after averaging 12.7 points and 3.5 rebounds for an 18-win team. After making 67 treys in the regular season, she also advanced to state in the 3-point shooting contest for the second year in a row.
