SPORTS NOTEBOOK: Shields Automart makes donation to Paxton Youth League

For the second year in a row, Shields Automart of Paxton made a donation to the Paxton Youth League.

Through Chevrolet, Shields donated $500 to the league, along with equipment such as baseballs and bat stands. T-shirts for every player in the league were also donated by Shields on behalf of the Chevy Youth Baseball program.

The program also provides Paxton’s youth league with 2,000 fundraising raffle tickets that sell for a recommended $5 donation. One winner from each Chevy dealer region — four total — will win their choice of a Chevrolet Cruze or Chevrolet Equinox. The league keeps 100 percent of the funds raised, with a possibility of up to $10,000. The ticket also includes a coupon for a discount on service at Shields.

“We have always supported youth sports in Paxton, through the school and through the rec department. The Chevy program helps us do even more,” Shields general manager Pete Klein said. “Chevy feels strongly about investing in our nation’s youth, and the youth sports program is a way they can show their support. We are proud to be a part of it and to be able to facilitate the donations and fundraisers here and in our other Shields market in Rantoul.”

Paxton Park District recreation director Neal McKenry said the organization was appreciative of Shields’ help.

“We definitely appreciate each business that got involved and sponsored one of our teams. I definitely appreciate Shields giving us an opportunity to make a little more money for the youth league,” McKenry said.
