Volleyball update -- 10/20/12

PAXTON — St. Joseph-Ogden beat PBL 20-25, 25-17, 25-21 in the third-place match of the SVC Tournament.

Kandace Hofer led PBL (24-5) in Saturday’s match with eight kills and digs each.

Kayla Cowan recorded 22 assists. Amanda Ypya added two blocks while Jori Maynard scored 17 service points.

For SJO, Nicholle Brown recorded eight kills and two blocks. Sydney Stone was credited with 25 assists while Kenzie James and Bailey Trimble had 15 digs and two service points, respectively.

In the championship match, meanwhile, Watseka defeated St. Thomas More 25-17, 25-23.

The Panthers will begin Class 2A postseason play on Tuesday with a Tolono Unity Regional match against the winner of Monday’s contest between St. Thomas More and GCMS.

If PBL wins that match, it would compete in the regional championship match on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Christ Lutheran results

No. 5-seeded Christ Lutheran lost to No. 4 Urbana Uni-High 25-17, 25-13  in the first round of the East Central Illinois Conference Tournament on Friday.

The Crusaders faced Normal Calvary Christian in the semifinals of the consolation bracket on Saturday.
